
How Our Furniture Glue Lamps Actually Work
Getting industrial glue to set right in a furniture shop is a bit of a balancing act. You need enough heat to get deep into the resin, but not so much that you’re just charring the surface of the wood. That’s why we use shortwave infrared (SWIR). Instead of just heating the air, these lamps hit the specific “sweet spot” of the glue. It ensures the bond is solid all the way through, not just a thin crust on top.
Let’s talk power and voltage
Most of our tubes are built for high wattage because, let’s be honest, nobody wants to wait around for glue to dry. We pack a lot of power into a small space to get those cycle times down. But here’s the catch: your power supply has to be a perfect match for the lamp’s voltage. If you under-voltage it, the glue won’t hit the temperature it needs to cure. If you over-do it? You’ll fry the filament. We’ve designed these to ramp up fast. We’re talking full heat in a matter of seconds.
The build quality
We use high-purity quartz glass. Why? Because these lamps go from cold to scorching hot instantly, and regular glass would just shatter from the thermal shock. Inside the tube, there’s a halogen cycle. It stops the quartz from turning black over time, so the light stays clear and strong for thousands of hours. As for the plugs, we offer R7s or Sk15. They’re basically drop-in replacements, so if you’re swapping out an old international brand, it should be a breeze.
The reality of using them
Shortwave IR is powerful. Like, really powerful. It’s great for high-volume lines, but you have to be careful with your distance. If the lamp is too close to the piece, you’re going to warp your wood or burn right through the veneer. Not a good look. To avoid that, I highly recommend using a PID controller and a thermocouple. It helps you manage that gap and keep the temperature steady. And don’t forget the fans. You need enough airflow in your curing chamber to move the ambient heat away, otherwise your reflectors will start to degrade. Keep it cool, and the lamps will last.
